Hello mothur users!
We are happy to announce the re=
lease of
mothu=
r v.1.46.0. Over the past few months we=E2=80=99ve incorporated a numbe=
r of little tweaks to mothur to make it run better by resolving some bugs a=
nd improving the overall usability. We're particularly excited about tw=
o additions we've made that will hopefully help address some long stand=
ing problems people have had with analyzing ITS sequences and amino acid se=
quences. First, we have refactored
se.seqs/">pairwise.seqs to use a heuristic to reduce the number of dist=
ances that need to be calculated. The result is a >99% decrease in execu=
tion time. Second, we have added several new distance calculation methods t=
o
dist.seqs so that you c=
an now calculate pairwise distances between amino acid sequences. Look for =
more functions in future releases for both ITS and amino acid sequences! Pl=
ease let us know what you think of these functions and what other functiona=
lities you'd like to see to make your ITS/amino acid sequence workflows=
easier.
There's a couple of other items to let you know about t=
o help you as you navigate your way through learning more about data analys=
is. First, my schedule for
vi=
rtual workshops is up on the Riffomonas website with a mothur workshop =
scheduled for September. Second, I continue to post regular videos to the <=
a href=3D"https://www.youtube.com/c/RiffomonasProject">Riffomonas YouTube c=
hannel. Finally, if you're looking for more updates on Riffomonas a=
nd resources for strengthening your R skills, I have a
hop.riffomonas.org/email">free weekly newsletter that you can subscribe=
to. I've been encouraged by the positive feedback I've received fr=
om the content on Riffomonas - let me know if there's anything you'=
d like me to be sure to cover.
Enjoy the new release and stay safe!<=
