From the Manjaro forum:

Firstly, the article says it is a power outage.
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/05/27/world/british-airways-computer-failure/

However in terms of computer programming for systems of great importance:
-at-mrbrklyn is correct. Mission critical software must under go standards
and robustness checking. More to say it must be Turing complete and not
throw errors of any sort. Reliability problems should be non-existent
especially in something like flight control.

Adding further to what he said. It's not so much about age, in terms of
mission critical systems it always comes down to "completeness". In case
you guys are unfamilar with Turing Completeness and Soundness.

systems
When modifying or extending existing code it, must have a proof to show
undefined behaviour can not occur when the program runs.

Why should age not be a reason to replace systems? In fact many
neon-lights get replaced before they stop functioning. With regards to
the technical side of things (from printer-drivers to storage systems) I
see them slowly progressing. But as soon as user-data is involved there
is an enormous am=E2=80=A6
