MPV 0.21.0 Media Player Adds Nvidia CUDA Support, Raspberry Pi Hardware Decoding
http://news.softpedia.com/news/mpv-0-21-0-media-player-adds-nvidia-cuda-support-raspberry-pi-hardware-decoding-509501.shtml
Today, October 20, 2016, MPV developer Martin Herkt proudly announced the release of another maintenance update for the very popular MPV open-source and cross-platform media player software based on MPlayer.
Looking at the release notes, which we've also attached at the end of the story for your reading pleasure, MPV 0.21.0 is a major update that adds a large amount of new features, options and commands, but also addresses dozens of bugs reported by users since the MPV 0.20.0 release and introduces other minor enhancements.
Among the most important new features, we can mention a new OSD (on-screen display) that appears when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, the ability to allow profile forward-references in the default profile, as well as support for Nvidia CUDA and cuvid/NvDecode, which appears to be a welcome addition to GNU/Linux distributions, as HEVC Main 10 support is missing in VDPAU.
MPV 0.21.0 adds right-click behavior to playlist and chapter buttons, along with user-configurable margin for top and bottom bars. Moreover, hardware decoding support is now provided for Raspberry Pi single-board computer thanks to the new "--hwdec=rpi-copy" command-line parameter.
Teletext now enabled by default, support for DRM devices lands Apart from the great new features mentioned above, MPV 0.21.0 comes with support for DRM (Digital Rights Management) devices when running the application in vaapi-copy mode, teletext support enabled by default, hardware decoder wrapper for Broadcom Crystal HD hardware decoder, as well as hw overlay support for Raspberry Pi devices.
Last but not least, MPV 0.21.0 introduces initial ARM Mali fbdev support. Dozens of new commands and options are now available, but many others were removed or deprecated, so we recommend to check out the changelog below for more details. In the meantime, you can download MPV 0.21.0 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows right now via our website. -- So many immigrant groups have swept through our town that Brooklyn, like Atlantis, reaches mythological proportions in the mind of the world - RI Safir 1998 http://www.mrbrklyn.com
