Use the load command to load them. The load command does not echo each construct to the command line, so you'll see far less output. If you have several files to load, use a batch file with multiple load commands. In general, use the load command to load just constructs and the batch command to execute a series of commands. You don't have to restart CLIPS every time you run your program. Start CLIPS and the load your program. If you have to change your rules, issue a clear command and then reload the rules. If you want to restart the program, issue a reset command and then run. Rather than throwing all commands into a single batch file, you can make development easier by keeping files associated with loading separate from those used for running. If you do want to automatically batch or load when starting CLIPS, refer to section 2.1.2 of the Basic Programming Guide: clips * ::= -f | -f2 | -l -f will do a batch, -f2 is similar to batch without echoing commands to the command prompt, and -l will do a load (just constructs). It seems like most job openings require several years of experience whereas employers are more willing to train valued employees with little experience but a good track record of learning new technology. You also have to consider the motivations of your potential employers. Companies that are building high visibility applications or ones with large cost saving potential are more likely to spend money on commercial tools and consulting help. Companies on a budget are more likely to use open source tools and train existing employees. In that regard, if you're looking to learn a marketable job skill you might be better learning a commercial product rather than CLIPS, although it's still beneficial to have some familiarity with a number of tools.
