Owing to a staff shortage in DC I got to travel down there the day of last month's non-blizzard to stream the Sate of the Net Conference at the Newseum. One of the strong themes in this year's event was diversity. Exemplifying that were the fact that 6 out of 8 plenary keynote speakers were women, including the nation's CTO, FTC Chair, an FCC Commissioner, and representatives from Congress, the Department of Justice, and Homeland Security, but at the same time there were no blacks and just one latino. In the afternoon breakout panel on diversity Kimberly Bryant of Black Girls CODE strongly expressed how much more has to be done to empower minorities to engage the new tech economy.
