working title: A fool named Wanda
Mr. Ruben Israel Safir, [MrBrklyn! the man (CEO of brooklyn!), the myth, and yes the Living Legend!]
I'll have to reintroduce myself but it must have been late 2020 maybe 2021. I remember that we (the four of us: Kristen, Miranda, Stephen, and myself -Michael) were amazed at how no one was wearing masks and just continuing on with their lives compared to us up in communist Williamsburg!! What a night as most normal nights were not forgotten during years that we didn't have to quarantine like moles and listen to bureaucrats and filthy greasy crooked politicians. I digress.... That fishing trip was just one of our adventures we had absolutely no delusions from the very start which common sense governed. elderly immune compromised, pregnant etc. we avoid and if not possible mask up and be cognizant of who you were around. We knew that it wasn't affected us.
So back to the fishing....
Sheepshead bay along with the rest of south Brooklyn is special and even though I am a native CA (never judge a book by its cover, but I would never direct that statement towards you, if you know. you know.)
The fishing was awesome! I caught nothing except sharks! and I remember taking a big bloody lick shark -that could have been some unusual side effects of the covid! OR because my dad told me about a captain on a charter off the coast of Santa BarbarA that dug an albacore's heart out and downed it with a beer. Ever since then it has become something on my bucket list.
Now on to the meat of this recollection or short story if you will, 'All that meat and noooo potatoes, that ain't right like green tomatoes" ~F.Waller
fishing at night right off the shores of south Brooklyn..... fugetaboutit!
I was a chef and worked in the kitchen since I was 15 and could legally work. I loved it especially in my 20's and early 30's and had no regard not did anyone hold me to it. I worked hard and partied! unfortunately that ended in some detox after crazy months to year long benders... When I met Kristen I knew the writing was on the wall and I began the long drawn out breakup with the best/worst relationship I really ever knew up until then. Last cooking job I had was at Lincoln center in 2017, I set up my line, I was working the garde manger (salad/cold apps) station grabbed my 3 foot pepper grinder and never looked back. That was awesome, one of the main reasons I cooked was I feed on the unknown nothing quite like being out of your own comfort zone. At least for me. Now I was faced with the dilemma of figuring out what the f*## I was going to do or could do next. LOVE YOU NYC; the answer was anything I wanted to! I dried out for a solid year and ended up working for The man, the bald man that owns a giant river! Amazon. I worked down the street from my last cooking job at Columbus circle. It was amazing dealing with moron customers and moron bosses. And we are talking about a really really dunce bread of human. given, then since our shirts said amazon the customers would come in and literally shit on us and blame us for their lost packages to everything you could fathom. Those stories are for another time.
I got almost a decade of front facing customer service experience with the worst kind of customer imaginable in just 2 short years. Honestly It was awesome. Then 2020 march .........
The pandemic hit like a dust devil in the nevada desert.
What I got out of the pandemic is: I have less faith that our government has our best interest at hand, most republicans are more full of shit that I could ever imagine and they are just RINO's, and you never let an opportunity pass you up. So I started to learn to code and I studied and obtained my CompTia A+ certification. Now I continue to learn Linux (I use aRch by the way.... LOL) I switched to learning Julia instead of python and I work for my Father and have become a Licensed Insurance Producer in the beautiful, awful, and almost communist state of California. -where I was born and raised.
So the point of this letter Mr. Safir is that people do indeed read your webpage and some people like myself absolutely love it! I miss brooklyn more than anything but my life and future family will be in California. Not too bad, Ventura has perfect weather so I can't complain about the best thing in NYC to complain about THE WEATHER! I even miss that.
Fast forward to planning a fishing trip to not hang ourselves with fishing line! "oooooo that smell, can't you smell that smell, the smell that surrounds you!" ~L.Skynyrd
I look forward to keeping in touch with you and I hope you won't mind me asking some computer questions from time to time.
I hate my cell phone.... so I will be downgrading to a flip phone soon, then one day when the landline comes back (and it will~!) I will get rid of it, maybe throw it off the boat!
Sincerely,
Michael Joseph Adams -the Biggest New Yorker born in Southern California ever! My handle has and will always be califool (califool85 sometimes)
