As I said, this is all obvious nonsense.
New York is one of the safest cities in North America. Its police department has a budget of over five billion dollars. Crime rates are drastically lower than they were thirty or forty years ago. Ratings services say there is no forseeable risk of the city becoming bankrupt.
There is a real issue of high costs, especially insufficient affordable housing — precisely because the city is so wonderful that lots of people want to live here, but construction has been overly focused on a small number of incredibly expensive luxury apartments.
New York is a wonderful gem — one of the capitols of the world — and the folks who hate on it usually reveal themselves to be dreadful people.
But we're really badly off topic here, and perhaps it would be prudent to agree to disagree.
