Spotify podcaster Joe Rogan suggested the United States is an
'authoritarian state' after CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden fled to
Russia in 2013 after revealing the U.S. government was spying on its
citizens.
Rogan, 54, was joined on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience by
comedian Tom Segura when he mentioned Snowden, 39, who leaked U.S.
intelligence information and fled to Russia where he has since lived in
exile.
'Isn't it ironic that Edward Snowden exposes the United States, exposes
this like, this deep underlying surveillance system that is essentially
monitoring everybody violating our constitutional rights,' Rogan said.
'He gets kicked out of the country and goes to Russia, and Russia takes
him in. He's happy over there. Fine in Russia.'
Segura responded, 'That's of course deliberate on their part.
'The way they treated him, the way they treat Julian Assange, you could
absolutely make the argument that this is an authoritarian state - and
he leaves here to a far worse one, and there, he's protected,' Rogan said.
