From my limited understanding of networking this is expected behaviour: You W* machine gets an IP address and gateway information from the router In most cases (home use) the gateway is the router, 192.168.88.1 (this is just a guess!). Gateway means: All traffic to me, I care about the rest (simplified view)
So, if your host is not connected to the gateway....how should he find a different machine? In the first glance, your host does not know that the Virtual machine is on the same box. (And if the host is not connected, how should the guest get a network address)
I have seen from your pics that your static network address was in a different subnet as well - that will not work w/o routing. Try 192.168.88.253 as static address, may work
