Featured Speaker: Liron Amitzi, Oracle ACE Director, senior Oracle DBA consultant and president of BCOUG (British Columbia Oracle User Group)
Schema design is an important part of any application design. It can affect performance, the development process and even your SQL queries. Thinking about design in advance is very important as design is not something we can easily change down the road. Yet, sometimes we get fixated on a specific design without thoroughly considering other, potentially better, options.
In this session I hope to challenge your design mindset by discussing a few design challenges and a few ways to solve them. What are the implications of each solution? Which way is the best? Is there even a "best" way to solve these cases?

- where this data can be seen in Enterprise Manager and other delivered reports
- the practicalities of how to directly query the ASH data to analyse and diagnose a range of performance and other problems.
- the value of a consolidated AWR/ASH repository
- the critical importance of application instrumentation
ASH is a licensed enterprise edition feature, but if you don't have it you might be interested in Simulated ASH.

Better Designed Than Sorry - Let's Design Our DB Schema Tuesday, January 5, 2021 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm EST

Active Session History Tuesday, January 19, 2021 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm EST
Featured Speaker: David Kurtz, Oracle ACE Director, independent Oracle consultant and and a proud member of the Oak Table
This presentation aims to help you use the Active Session History (ASH) repository to investigate performance problems.
Oracle has produced many presentations that explain how ASH works, so this presentation provides only a very brief overview of how ASH works. Instead, it looks at:
- what information is collected by ASH and stored in the repository
- where this data can be seen in Enterprise Manager and other delivered reports
- the practicalities of how to directly query the ASH data to analyse and diagnose a range of performance and other problems.
- the value of a consolidated AWR/ASH repository
- the critical importance of application instrumentation
ASH is a licensed enterprise edition feature, but if you don't have it you might be interested in Simulated ASH.
