Yeah, the s6-rc backend was just changed to be more parallel. Instead of having two different s6-rc calls (one for boot and the other for default), it now does one single call to default which brings everything up. So what's probably just happening here is that the alsa oneshot gets run before you actually have the root partition available. I've just pushed some s6 script updates which should address this. It's probable that some other oneshots should also be updated to reflect this change.
