2 years ago I acquired an MSI 17+" laptop for $899. -at- bandh.com on 9th ave at 34 st. It is a gaming laptop; I am not a gamer but selected this due to best specifications for the price. Many high performance components like graphics accelerator etc. It has a Nvidia ( graphics card ? ) which at first wasn't recognized by Linux, but all the drivers are available now. Linux Mint or Ubuntu, I forget which, even detected my Nvidia hardware, and sent me an unsolicited notice that "the drive is now available, would i like to install it ?". Great, yes ! Prior to that, the graphics worked, albeit with a default driver with loss of special performance, which was un-noticeable to me.
Due to production economies of scale, it costs less to purchase a Windows laptop, then just install Linux yourself.
I would caution against dual booting, because Windows detects the alien OS and corrupts it's boot record, intentionally ( and criminally ).
Either just wipe the hard drive, or if you want to preserve the Windows installation, you can invest a few dollars more for another hard drive, and just grab a screwdriver and take the Win HD out and store it. Only takes a few minutes to swap it out again if for some reason you want to boot Windows.
