SUBJECT | Re: [Hangout - NYLXS] suggestions on building a linux system ?
|
RE linux desktop/tower: I kind of have to build instead of buying a system because I have quite a few 3.5 HDDs that I'd "import" into the new box. (plus I HATE all the leds/views that seems all to common these days). I thought I noticed some emails in the last few days about bios/EFI problems from some systems with linux.
RE laptops - I looked at staples & BB the last few days. I'm too much of an "old-timer". I don't like/trust SSDs. I like having a nice 1 TB HDD. I like numeric keypad. and have you seend the piece of junk they call an RJ-45 jack? a spring-loaded clip to hold an RJ-45 into a barely-there socket - you KNOW that spring will break all too soon and then no more RJ-45. And that's if there even is an RJ-45 and you don't have to use a USB-10bT adapter ...
I'm trying to find something similar to my old ASUS laptop (with some improvements): 15.6 1080P 8GB (expandable), 1TB HD BOOT drive, numeric keypad, 10bT & wifi. USB 3.0, 2.0 & 3c. almost bought an ASUS xf506li (i5) on sale from BB, but discovered past issues on previous models with hinge failures. and the i7/ryzen7 version being LOUD.
