Jelani Cobb should not be doing jounalsim for Frontline. The draws the
line, as he did, that voting in Milwaukee is connected to lynch mods in
the south is not just wrong, but its presentation as it was, is a
distortion. The truth that assuring citizen identifications and voting
in a booth is a burden for all of us, and yet we vote without violence
or lynchings, not only in NY where I live, but in Milwaukee, where I
have in-laws and have had children.
All the Jews in Milwaukee somehow vote, but blacks are being targets by
system lynch mods? That is JUST BULLSHIT.
After all the great reporting you did on China, and the Medical supply
shortanges and Eric Snoden, it deeply saddens me and offends me to have
this kind of inflamatory and dishonest reporting on Frontline.
Straighten out and fly right. Report the facts as they are, not commentary.
I'd like to just add one more thing that is never said. All of us who
have been in politics understands the pwoer of the urban Democratic
party machines. They pass laws that are a far greater blockage for
outsiders to get on ballots, and then use party apporatus to use those
laws to there advantage. In NY, Chicago and in Milwaukee it is
horrendous. You don't categorize this as fraud, but it IS fraud.
By allowing for mail in voting you violate the most important part of
the voting process, which is that it is PRIVATE and SECRET. An
individual standing in front of the ballot, on election day, the day
that is designated for the end of the debates and campaigns, and for the
voter to chose, is a sacred moment. It is just you, your ballot and
your God in that election both, and one of the moments of truth that we
ever have as free human beings. There is no zoom conference or peer
pressure in that booth. Just you and your consciousness. That is what
mail in voting strips away. Despite centuries of evidence that the
sanctity of that ballot is necessary for free and fair elections, the
mail in ballot destroys this. And it allows the Democratic party
machine to ramp up its per pressure, to stand in front of people gently
insisting that they vote, to add illegal voters to the rolls, and they
prod people to vote right there and then, in the public sphere. This
destroys the electoral process at its foundation and everyone who is a
proponent of that should be ashamed.
I am sure you will never post this or contact me ever about this issue
or even air it out. Why should you when the Milwaukee electoral system
is being compared to 1867 Mississippi. Why ever review the need to
counter voter fraud, which is systemic in urban areas and
institutionalized, with access to the booth. Just pretend there is no
issue and throw all control away. That is the problem with every one of
these protest movements and activist. They want to thow away due
process protections, and procedure designed to protect our systems, to
sacrifice them for the issue...may that by BLM, Gender discrimination or
whatever. Like Carol King noted in lyric, these movements have more to
do with 1867 and Smackwater Jack than the Milwaukee election laws which
require reasonable verification of citizenship, and slow the process
down. The problem can be fixed but it can't be bent...
