Last week I had the opportunity to give a remote presentation on Perl 7
to the Toronto Perlmongers. The slides from that talk are available here:

Unfortunately, the webcasting technology they were using had a limit of
10 attendees (which we did not know until we saw that people were unable
to get into the meeting. I'm offering to compensate for that in one or
both of two ways:
A. If people in ny.pm wanted to organize a virtual meeting, I could
simply repeat the presentation.
B. Have a virtual meeting on IRC. If, *after going through those
slides*, you want to have more discussion about Perl 7 as software and
project, I'd be happy to set up a time to discuss this on IRC. It
appears that on irc.perl.org you can create a channel by just letting
yourself into the room. So we could create a #ny.pm (or such) channel
and squat there some evening and toss questions back and forth.
Also, ...
We're fast approaching a stage in the Perl 7 Project where we need more
people looking at the code base and the changes we've made. What we're
looking for is not so much "code reviewing" as "code understanding,"
that is, understanding exactly what we're trying to do and then looking
at the code to determine whether we've done what we set out to do.
To be a "code understander" you would need:
* Familiarity with Perl 5 -- which, I would suspect, the overwhelming
majority of readers of this list already have;
* Basic familiarity with git and an account on github.com; but ...
* Familiarity with the Perl core distribution is helpful but not essential.
If you have free time, particularly over the balance of this month and
next, and would like to make a tangible contribution to the forward
development of Perl, please ping me off-list and I'll go into greater
detail.
