Theodore Roosevelt Braves The River of Doubt
Chairman of the Theodore Roosevelt Institute and LIU professor Tweed Roosevelt, great-grandson of America’s 26th President, will deliver the third lecture in the four-part series “TR and the River of Doubt.” The lecture chronicles President Roosevelt’s iconic scientific expedition to Brazil in 1914 and the journey Tweed Roosevelt made retracing his great-grandfather’s steps nearly a century later. $2 Billion Towards a Coronavirus Vaccine
Executive John Trizzino, ’81, has helped Novavax secure over $2 billion in funding to support development of a COVID-19 vaccine. The global biotechnology company received awards from the U.S. government’s Operation Warp Speed program, Department of Defense (DoD), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, a global partnership founded by Bill and Melinda Gates.
Guggenheim Winner to Lead George Polk School of Communications
Award-winning author and educator Robin Hemley will serve as Director of the George Polk School of Communications at Long Island University. Hemley is a winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Nelson Algren Award for Fiction from /The Chicago Tribune/, and three Pushcart Prizes in both fiction and nonfiction. Hemley joins LIU from Yale University, where he directed the Writing Program in Singapore. He previously directed the Nonfiction Writing Program at The University of Iowa for nine years.
LIU Sets Record for Highest GPA
Long Island University athletics set a Northeast Conference single-season record for the highest cumulative GPA during the 2019-2020 academic year, winning the prestigious Institutional GPA Award in the process. The University also claimed a conference-best six Team GPA awards, two more than any other institution in the NCAA Division I conference.
