Determining if the execution plan you are looking= at is the best plan you could get or attempting to improve a poorly perfor= ming execution plan can be a daunting task even for the most experienced DB= A or developer. This two-part webcast series examines the different aspects= of an execution plan, from cardinality estimates to parallel execution and= explains what information you should be gleaming from the plan and how it = affects the execution. It offers insight into what caused the Optimizer to = make the decision it did as well as a set of corrective measures that can b= e used to improve each aspect of the plan. Part 1 covers the best technique= s for generating an execution plan, understanding cardinality estimates and= the different access and join methods. While Part 2 covers join orders, pa= rtitioning and parallel execution. Have you ever interviewed a DBA or a DB developer = and didn=E2=80=99t know what questions to ask? An interview is an integral = part of being employed, and it=E2=80=99s very different from one company an= d interviewer to another, but the goal is the same: to get a feel for the c= andidate and see if the candidate is a good fit for the position. As a DBA = consultant and past manager of a team of professional services DBAs, I have= both interviewed and been interviewed myself many times. In this session I= will present my view on interviewing (or being interviewed) for a DBA or D= B developer position, questions I like to ask and why, what I=E2=80=99m hap= py (and less happy) to hear from the other side, and how to respond to cert= ain situations as a candidate. How do we explore a leadership style that is a= uthentic, yet yields results at the same time? How do we recognize the posi= tive aspects of leadership in those around us? How do we learn from other p= eople's leadership experience and take stock of what must change with the p= assage of time? Our leadership style is constantly evolving on our journey = toward achieving our goals. Find out more about developing your unique lead= ership style and the importance of a clear path forward from our panelists.= Click here for registration and more information Uses of Row Pattern Match= ing Thursday, August 6, 2020 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm EDT Featured Speaker: Kim= Berg Hansen, Trivadis With 12c came the ability to search efficiently for = patterns within your rows of data using a syntax similar to searching for c= haracter patterns in strings with regular expressions, but instead of searc= hing text, it searches for data patterns. This is useful for pattern recogn= ition like finding ups and downs in values over time (e.g., stock tickers) = or transaction patterns in accounts that may look like fraudulent behavior.= But it can also be used for grouping consecutive data, finding gaps, findi= ng or merging overlapping periods, calculating number of children in hierar= chical data, and more. Join me for a discussion of different use cases of r= ow pattern matching. The execution= plan for a SQL statement can often seem complicated and hard to understand= . Determining if the execution plan you are looking at is the best plan you= could get or attempting to improve a poorly performing execution plan can = be a daunting task even for the most experienced DBA or developer. This two= -part webcast series examines the different aspects of an execution plan, f= rom cardinality estimates to parallel execution and explains what informati= on you should be gleaming from the plan and how it affects the execution. I= t offers insight into what caused the Optimizer to make the decision it did= as well as a set of corrective measures that can be used to improve each a= spect of the plan. Part 1 covers the best techniques for generating an exec= ution plan, understanding cardinality estimates and the different access an= d join methods. While Part 2 covers join orders, partitioning and parallel = execution.

erdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-weight: bold;">Featured Speaker: Steven Fe= uerstein, Oracle Corp
Since Oracle = Database 12c, a very nice and highly varied set of features have been added= to the PL/SQL language. Given the pressure on developers' time and attenti= on, it can be hard to keep with these new features, especially given how ro= bust PL/SQL has been for years, and how stable are the applications built w= ith it. This presentation makes attendees aware of new possibilities for PL= /SQL development, with benefits ranging from runtime performance improvemen= ts to improved coding productivity. Steven will cover the following: 18c Qu= alified expressions for collections and records; PL/Scope now includes SQL = statements in its analysis; Whitelisting with the ACCESSIBLE_BY Clause; Mor= e PL/SQL-Only Data Types Cross PL/SQL-to-SQL Interface; Optimizing Function= Execution in SQL; The UTL_CALL_STACK Package; Privileges/Access Management= for Program Units; Static Expressions In Place of Literals; Marking elemen= ts for deprecation.
