In an incredible act of self-destruction, the huge, iconic, statue of
Teddy Roosevelt is being removed from the Museum of Natural History. It
is a disgusting and obscene act which is censoring previous generations
and scraping our heritage ... it is just unthinkable.
There is no doubt that when the statue was created it was not just
considered an iconography of modernity and progression, but it speaks of
the positive aspirations that a generation, 100 years ago, had about the
future of America, a future that included a greater placement of
minorities and civil rights. To reinterpret that statue on is WRONG,
even if the iconography seems to be misplaced today. This statue is not
a symbol of racism, but it was a down payment on a better future with
broader civil rights, which is where we are today.
