Hello mothur users,
I=E2=80=99m writing to let you know that I have a new R workshop that I wi=
ll be offering from May 13 to 15. It will be held as a virtual workshop usi=
ng Zoom. It is geared towards people who would like to learn R or to learn =
it better using a diverse collection of datasets drawn from infectious dise=
ase, climate science, and demographics of higher education. I may be hostin=
g a more specific microbial ecology-based workshop later this summer. My ge=
neral R workshop is intended for beginners and more advanced R programmers =
who would like to fill their gaps in knowledge. I assume no previous comput=
er programming experience. The workshop is an even blend of lecture/discuss=
ion and hands on use of R with real data. The material is centered on learn=
ing how to solve problems using functions from the =E2=80=9Ctidyverse=E2=80=
=
=9D. The workshop will give you a pretty thorough set of working examples =
for how to use packages like ggplot2, readr, dplyr, stringr, and lubridate.=
More importantly, the workshop will emphasize developing problem solving s=
kills for solving data and programming problems.=20
Basics: As indicated above, each day there will be a lecture and discussio=
n interspersed with hands-on activities and it will run from 9 am to 4 pm (=
Eastern, GMT-5). We will take an hour long break at noon for people to get =
lunch and will have shorter breaks in the morning and afternoon.
Logistics: A week before the workshop I will provide you with a link to pa=
rticipate in the workshop. I will also provide information about what to in=
stall on your computer and where to fully participate. Of course, a willing=
ness to learn, questions, and a good sense of humor are essential!
