Congressman Hakeem Jeffries has a message for his Republican colleagues
in the House of Representatives: Get Lost!
Rep. Jeffries, a Democrat who represents Coney Island, Sea Gate,
Manhattan Beach, parts of Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Gerritsen
Beach, Marine Park, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, as well as other
neighborhoods in northern and eastern Brooklyn, tweeted: “House
Republican #CoverUpCaucus wants sham witnesses to testify. My two cents?
GET LOST!”
Congressional Republicans have been seeking to introduce witnesses in
what has so far been an impeachment process run strictly by the
Democrats seeking to remove President Donald Trump from office. Most of
the meetings have been held in private with the media only getting to
report on the leaks provided by those who actively support impeachment.
In some meetings where Republicans were allowed, Congressman Adam
Schiff, among others, publicly and privately instructed them not to
answer questions from Republicans that supporters of impeachment do not
think are fair. No similar right to veto questions or to introduce
witnesses has been given to the Republican Congressmen who oppose
impeachment.
In the past, Congressman Jeffries refused to participate in a debate
that would include candidates of the Green and Republican parties,
declaring that their presence at the debate would “confuse” voters. Mr.
Jeffries has a safe seat that is in no danger of being challenged by
either a Republican or a Democrat insurgent. According to the latest
party registration statistics released by the Board of Elections just 11
days ago, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a ratio of over 10:1 and
generally trending even more in the Democratic direction the last
several years, so Mr. Jeffries is free to speak his mind on issues that
concern him.
