There are always classes of people that are object of jokes. Jokes in
many countries are like that. But they are not meant to be serious.
I am born in former Yugoslavia, we have jokes about Montenegro people
being lazy. They laugh about it too. Everybody knows it is not quite
true (I am still not sure...).
Myself I am from area where people in surrounding areas are making
jokes about us. I don't find it offensive, well reason why is that I
know that jokes are not meant to be serious.
We have a joke about Montenegrin people, why a Montenegrin, before
going to sleep, has one glass full of water by their bed, and one
glass is there empty? Because when they wake up in the morning they
don't know if they are thirsty or not...
And nobody thinks it is serious.
Over-reaction is not rational. It is a problem of the person
over-reacting. It is not a real problem to be solved, especially not
when there are jokes involved.
Jokes are not hate speech. Over-reaction to jokes is exaggeration and
blowing things out of proportions.
Solution to over-reaction is to stop dramatizing being a victim when
one is not.
As simple as that.
No virgins were harmed.
