page may contain only references. This is the maximum number of pages that will

will be rejected.

The Quantified Patient Checks In
Five years ago, Larry Smarr (founding Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications
and Information Technology (Calit2), a UC San Diego/UC Irvine partnership, and professor
in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at UC San Diego's Jacobs School) predicted
for Atlantic magazine that by 2030, there wouldn't be "that much more to know" about
the genomic bases and bacterium of an individual. By then, he believes, individuals
will have their bodies' "wiring diagram," which they can use along with their doctors
to maintain or mend their bodies the way we do our cars, including with preventative
care. In support of this effort, Smarr is a high-profile practitioner of the Quantified
Self (QS) movement, a group of individuals who engage in self-tracking all manner
of biological, physical, or behavioral information. Smarr believes the ongoing digital
transformation of medicine eventually will be decentralized from the physician to
the individual-a transformation that would enable our system to finally live up
to its name-a health care system instead of a sick care system.

A Software Tool for Heart AVJ Motion Tracking Using Cine
Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) ImagesOne important index to assess left ventricular (LV) diastolic function is the quantitative
measurement of Atrioventricular Junction (AVJ) motion in one cardiac cycle including
systole and diastole. The best way to perform the measurement is to use a software
tool that can conduct AVJ motion tracking from cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance
(CMR) images. In this paper, a software tool for this purpose is presented by using
the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK), the Visualization Toolkit
(VTK) and Qt. We propose a surface area based tracking approach in the software
tool. In the tracking approach to obtain the surface area swept by 6 points being
tracked, we manually select 6 points from 4-, 3- and 2-chamber views of CMR images.
After that, we reconstruct the 3D coordinates of the 6 points from image acquisition
parameters extracted from DICOM files.

Cancer Occurrences in Laboratory Rats from Exposure to RF and Microwave RadiationHealth effects of radio frequency (RF) and microwave radiation have been a subject
of scientific inquiry and public interest of late because of widespread global usage
of mobile communication devices by billions of people everywhere. A minute increase
in health risks such as cancer from RF radiation might lead to significant consequences
for health of the general public. A recent U.S. government announcement of discovery
of rare cancers in rats exposed to RF radiation is an important occurrence. Note
that any new or single report should not be viewed in isolation. The U.S. government
project was organized to confront the weaknesses of prior laboratory rodent studies
on the potential of RF exposure to impact human health such as cancer in controlled
environments. Indeed, several published reports on animal cancer investigations
involving prolonged exposures to RF radiation are contentious and perplexing.

The Quantified Patient Checks In
Five years ago, Larry Smarr (founding Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications
and Information Technology (Calit2), a UC San Diego/UC Irvine partnership, and professor
in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at UC San Diego's Jacobs School) predicted
for Atlantic magazine that by 2030, there wouldn't be "that much more to know" about
the genomic bases and bacterium of an individual. By then, he believes, individuals
will have their bodies' "wiring diagram," which they can use along with their doctors
to maintain or mend their bodies the way we do our cars, including with preventative
care. In support of this effort, Smarr is a high-profile practitioner of the Quantified
Self (QS) movement, a group of individuals who engage in self-tracking all manner
of biological, physical, or behavioral information. Smarr believes the ongoing digital
transformation of medicine eventually will be decentralized from the physician to
the individual-a transformation that would enable our system to finally live up
to its name-a health care system instead of a sick care system.

A Software Tool for Heart AVJ Motion Tracking Using Cine
Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) ImagesOne important index to assess left ventricular (LV) diastolic function is the quantitative
measurement of Atrioventricular Junction (AVJ) motion in one cardiac cycle including
systole and diastole. The best way to perform the measurement is to use a software
tool that can conduct AVJ motion tracking from cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance
(CMR) images. In this paper, a software tool for this purpose is presented by using
the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK), the Visualization Toolkit
(VTK) and Qt. We propose a surface area based tracking approach in the software
tool. In the tracking approach to obtain the surface area swept by 6 points being
tracked, we manually select 6 points from 4-, 3- and 2-chamber views of CMR images.
After that, we reconstruct the 3D coordinates of the 6 points from image acquisition
parameters extracted from DICOM files.

Cancer Occurrences in Laboratory Rats from Exposure to RF and Microwave RadiationHealth effects of radio frequency (RF) and microwave radiation have been a subject
of scientific inquiry and public interest of late because of widespread global usage
of mobile communication devices by billions of people everywhere. A minute increase
in health risks such as cancer from RF radiation might lead to significant consequences
for health of the general public. A recent U.S. government announcement of discovery
of rare cancers in rats exposed to RF radiation is an important occurrence. Note
that any new or single report should not be viewed in isolation. The U.S. government
project was organized to confront the weaknesses of prior laboratory rodent studies
on the potential of RF exposure to impact human health such as cancer in controlled
environments. Indeed, several published reports on animal cancer investigations
involving prolonged exposures to RF radiation are contentious and perplexing.
