Computational bioimaging: How to further reduce exposure and/or increase im=
age quality
We start our account of inverse problems in imaging with a brief review of =
first-generation
reconstruction algorithms, which are linear and typically non-iterative (e.=
g., backprojection).
We then highlight the emergence of the concept of sparsity, which opened th=
e door
to the resolution of more difficult image reconstruction problems, includin=
g compressed
sensing. In particular, we demonstrate the global optimality of splines for=
solving
problems with total-variation (TV) regularization constraints. Next, we int=
roduce
an alternative statistical formulation where signals are modeled as sparse =

Wearable Improved Vision System for Color Vision Deficiency Correction
Color vision deficiency (CVD) is an extremely frequent vision impairment th=
at compromises
the ability to recognize colors. In order to improve color vision in a subj=
ect with
CVD, we designed and developed a wearable improved vision system based on a=
n augmented
reality device. The system was validated in a clinical pilot study on 24 su=
bjects
with CVD (18 males and 6 females, aged 37.4 =C2=B1 14.2 years). The primary=
outcome was
the improvement in the Ishihara Vision Test score with the correction propo=
sed by
our system. The Ishihara test score significantly improved (p=3D0.03) from =
5.8 =C2=B1 3.0
without correction to 14.8 =C2=B1 5.0 with correction. Almost all patients =

Computational bioimaging: How to further reduce exposure and/or increase im=
age quality
We start our account of inverse problems in imaging with a brief review of =
first-generation
reconstruction algorithms, which are linear and typically non-iterative (e.=
g., backprojection).
We then highlight the emergence of the concept of sparsity, which opened th=
e door
to the resolution of more difficult image reconstruction problems, includin=
g compressed
sensing. In particular, we demonstrate the global optimality of splines for=
solving
problems with total-variation (TV) regularization constraints. Next, we int=
roduce
an alternative statistical formulation where signals are modeled as sparse =
stochastic

Wearable Improved Vision System for Color Vision Deficiency Correction
Color vision deficiency (CVD) is an extremely frequent vision impairment th=
at compromises
the ability to recognize colors. In order to improve color vision in a subj=
ect with
CVD, we designed and developed a wearable improved vision system based on a=
n augmented
reality device. The system was validated in a clinical pilot study on 24 su=
bjects
with CVD (18 males and 6 females, aged 37.4 =C2=B1 14.2 years). The primary=
outcome was
the improvement in the Ishihara Vision Test score with the correction propo=
sed by
our system. The Ishihara test score significantly improved (p=3D0.03) from =
5.8 =C2=B1 3.0
without correction to 14.8 =C2=B1 5.0 with correction. Almost all patients =
