The deficit is how much you spend in one year beyond what you have in income that ONE year, i.e. how much credit you use because you are spending beyond your means.
The debt is the total of all the deficits you've been accumulating over multiple years.
Ever hear of the Financial Stability Board ? The $20+ trillion current US debt is a serious threat. Are they doing anything about it ?
Plus, there are clues now that the same guy who crashed the British Pound is now getting ready to do the same thing to the US dollar.
If he succeeds and we have an economic collapse, you won't have to worry about the 5 cent charge for plastic grocery bags, because there won't be any groceries to put in them. Not to mention you will be using candles for light and collecting rain water in buckets outside.

The debt and the decifit are related things, but not exactly the same
thing, I think.
The deficit is the difference in the budget which requires borrowing
which creates the debt. Not all dept is bad.
