SUBJECT | Subject: [Hangout of NYLXS] May 1 ny.pm technical meeting: Mark Overmeer on
|
Long-time Dutch Perl contributor Mark Overmeer (http://search.cpan.org/~markov/) will be in the U.S. in late April and early May and he has generously offered to do a presentation for New York Perlmongers. And, once again, Sam Kaufman has generously offered us a venue at SocialFlow.
The details:
Modern XML Processing with Perl Mark Overmeer Monday, May 1 2017 6:30 pm SocialFlow 52 Vanderbilt Avenue, 12th Floor (across the street from the west side of Grand Central Terminal)
Description:
In real life, you cannot always avoid using XML and SOAP. Indeed, there are many places where XML has great benefit over simpler syntaxes like JSON. The XML::Compile suite for Perl makes a direct mapping between Perl data-structures and XML, with automatic namespaces and validation.
In this presentation Mark Overmeer will show how simple perfect processing of XML can be. Even more useful, he will show what kind of problems you may encounter: design flaws and historical heritage which may make simple projects hard.
Mark Overmeer started programming in 1978 and still enjoys it every day. In 2002 he became self-employed programming mainly in Perl, sometimes in C. See http://search.cpan.org/~markov/ for a full list of his modules, like Mail::Box, MIME::Type, POSIX::1003, ...
We'll probably also have one short introductory presentation, to be announced.
Thank you very much. Jim Keenan
