They work quite well. You are having problems because of changes to the scale and composition of what they index that you don't understand, and because you don't understand how search engines even function at a fundamental level, and probably you aren't using smart search strategies.
Your having problems fails to create an agenda item for other people -- and your editorialising and inventing conspiracy theories without bothering to understand what you talk about merely makes you look foolish in public.
Anyway, if you don't like the way the current search engines work, you are free to invent your own rather than bitching about how other people choose to operate their businesses. I certainly hope you aren't under the delusion that those businesses are public utilities or work for you.
Your being unhappy with them does _not_ equate to them failing to work 'correctly'.
