Quoting Ruben Safir (mrbrklyn-at-panix.com):

Demonstrating that a distinctive phrase on my personal pages currently has high search prominence _doesn't_ prove that 'home pages are in search results'? You have a very eccentric understanding of the word 'prove' -- and also a convenient one, since I just showed a direct, objective counterexample to your factually erroneous claim.

If you think that will automatically show up in the top two pages of results irrespective of other factors, then you have no idea how search engines work.

Yes, they most certainly do. Provably.

Not familiar with that application, sorry.

This is so vague, I cannot tell what you're saying, and am not going to bother to guess.

No, that's not even in the top three reasons. http://linuxmafia.com/kb/Essays/meetup.html

Search smarter.

You know how Page Rank works.

Fortunately, that is not true of mailing lists, or I'd not spend as much time, care, and energy answering technical questions there.
(I have not checked on the search prominence of Usenet in a long time, but the Page Rank issue is obvious.)

You know how Page Rank works.
