Well I prefer this instead of DRM. This would primarily be useful for media companies to find unauthorized content posted on YouTube and similar sites. I don't have an issue with that because sharing with friends is different than republication which is what many people are actually doing when they post copyrighted materials publicly.
I could also conceive of some law enforcement uses as well and I could see some civil rights issues around that.
I don't see how computers being able to recognize content of a video gets us closer to the end of the world. Maybe you can enlighten us.
