My guess: Question you some more about the purpose of your visit, to see if you were fibbing about tourism. The context is that Canada is quite understandably hard on foreigners sneaking over the border to take Canadian jobs when they arrived on a tourist visa.

I've been through Canada twice in recent years with my laptop computer, for probably valid tourism reasons. They of course have no problem with that.

Indeed, accidentally smuggling _undeclared_ firearms into Canada would be a really dumb move, so don't do that. (Signs at the ports of entry do warn about this.) On the other hand, declare your up to three firearms at the border and pay the CDN $25 fee, and no problem. I've not heard of seizure of vehicles, but apparently quite a few dumb clucks get their guns taken and destroyed every year because 'I forgot'. Which amazes me, but it happens. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/americans-are-trying-to-bring-their-guns-into-canada-because-they-dont-understand-we-have-gun-control-laws
