Also, this movie was a running gag with me and my wife where we'd keep talking about going to 'feckin' Bruges', in an Irish accent. We did finally manage to have a day trip by train to Bruges a few years ago. It was indeed really a gorgeous little jewel of a mediaeval city, despite the rain.
I'll bet Ralph Fiennes had a ball doing what was essentially a Michael Caine role, complete with Cockney accent and attitude.
That woman who plays the local actress? That's the same gal who played Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films when she was 23. And no, that is not Peter Dinklage, but rather a Canadian actor named Jordan Prentice.
The wonderful score to this black comedy is by Carter Burwell,
Locally, the town is mostly called Brugge, the Flemish (Dutch) name. 'Bruges' is the Walloon (French) name.
