It hasn't occurred to you that the East Coast has FAR more people than
the West Coast. Splitting up California, which I think is just going to
have to happen at some point, will not give you eight senators but 5
bickering states, many of which might look like Pennsylvania... but much
smaller.
Study the NY/NJ Port Authority for a better view of what it would look like.
The best thing about Sandy was that it pushed NJ just a little bit
further away from NY.
