But that other Middle-Eastern death cult is pretty damned murderous,
surely, and deserves your implacable opposition equally.
So, for example, six of the seven biggest mass-murderers in
American history were Christians, with the possible exception of the
perpetrator of the 1920 Wall Street Bombing (killed 38), who was never
caught and remains unknown. (The seventh, Omar Mateen, was of course
Muslim.) The most murderous of the lot, Timothy McVeigh (killed 168),
was Roman Catholic, i.e., took Last Rites from a priest just before his
execution.
Of course, all of these are pikers compared to Mao Tse Tung, who caused
the death of 45 million people by starvation through the Great Leap
Forward policy of 1958-62. But that was one of those bureaucratic,
killing-through-ineptitude things. (Democidal governments and war
criminals are a special-achievement category.)
Let's consider the personal variety, the world's worst serial killers:
Luis Garavito of Columbia, 1990s, 172–300+ victims: Catholic
Pedro López of Columbia/Ecuador/Peru, 1969 to 1980, 300+ victims: Catholic
Daniel Camargo of Columbia/Ecuador, 1974 to 1986, 150 victims, Catholic
Pedro Rodrigues Filho of Brazil, 1967 to 2003, 100+ victims, Catholic
Yang Xinhai of China, 2000 to 2003, 67 victims, no known religion
Andrei Chikatilo of USSR, 1978 to 1990, 56 victims, Jewish
Anatoly Onoprienko of USSR/Ukraine, 1989 to 1996, 52+ victims, Eastern Orthodox
Gary Ridgway of USA, 1982 to 2000, 71–90+ victims, Pentecostal
Going by the statistics, Christianity looks pretty damned murderous, to me.
