The Republicans mostly just failed to show up, really. There were
sixteen midgets against him, and he was able to grab all the publicity,
aided by a bunch of really idiotic voters who apparently didn't mind his
constant changes of position, his blatant lying, and his ongoing
incompetence at public affairs.
And he did not 'soundly defeat' the Democratic Party opponent, Hillary
Clinton; he _very narrowly_ prevailed in a half dozen swing states, thus
giving him a (presumed) Electoral College victory even though Secretary
Clinton beat him by an estimated two points in the popular vote.

That sentence doesn't actually say anything. Perhaps you didn't notice.
Anyway, a 'so stupid' _New Yorker_ article I _do_ recommend to you is
John Cassidy's 'Donald Trump's Great Bait and Switch'. I will not be
bulk-pasting the entire article, because, as you know but don't care
because you're a scofflaw and an asshat, that's rude to the author and a
gross violation of copyright. Instead, a snippet:
http://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/donald-trumps-great-bait-and-switch
Six days into the Trump transition, one of the biggest bait-and-switch
operations in recent history is already well under way. Trump campaigned
as an outsider who would overthrow a hopelessly corrupt Washington
establishment. Now we learn that many members of that very establishment
will play key roles in a Trump Administration. On Friday, Trump
announced that his soon-to-be Vice-President, Mike Pence, a former head
of the Republican Study Committee on Capitol Hill, would replace New
Jersey Governor Chris Christie as the chairman of his transition team.
On Sunday, that team announced that Reince Priebus, the head of the
Republican National Committee, the Party’s principal fund-raising and
organizational arm, will serve as Trump’s White House chief of staff,
while Stephen Bannon, the former Goldman Sachs banker and head of
Breitbart News, the controversial alt-right Web site, will serve as
Trump’s chief strategist. And, on Monday, Bloomberg News reported that
the transition team had recommended for the post of Treasury Secretary
Steven Mnuchin, another former Goldman Sachs banker, who served as
Trump’s chief fund-raiser.
Article goes on to further detail how the pretense of an 'outsider'
administration has been unceremoniously jettisoned and was very clearly
a sham all along. Positions in the incoming administration are being
filled at the specifications of usual-suspect lobbyists, and it's
basically the 'spoils system' on steroids, plus outright nepotism and
cronyism with ballsy ignoring of severe conflicts of interest.
Trump himself is reported to be trying to argue that he doesn't
_actually_ need to spend much time in Washington, and is angling to
spend most of his time in Trump Tower or on one of his golf courses.
Because, y'know, the Presidency's a part-time commuter job, right? I
mean, only a -loser- would actually do hard work at it. That's the sort
of thing that you delegate to lackeys.
