Secretary Clinton had plenty of stamina and a clear agenda. You just
presumably didn't like the latter -- or maybe you are one of those
crazed conspiracy theorists like Ruben who think the First Lady went
around ninja-assassinating people like Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown
without her actually having opportunity, means, or motive.
(Ruben thinks the First Lady brought down Brown's USAF B737 transport
jet in the mountains next to Dubrovnik, which city Ruben asserted is in
Colorado. Yes, that's crazy, but I didn't make it up. Check the
archives.)
Anyway, now we get to have a President who not only has no agenda but
also visibly failed to understand the scope of what the Presidency does
when he was having his first briefing from the seated President, and
whose staff were reported to be surprised and dismayed that they'd have
to re-staff the White House themselves.
This is the gentleman who, in the middle of the campaign, just before
a trip to the UK, was asked about Brexit during an interview by
_Hollywood Reporter's_ Michael Wolff , and revealed that he had no
idea what the term "Brexit" means.
I ask if he sees himself as having similarities with leaders of the
growing anti-immigrant (some would say outright racist) European
nativist movements, like Marine Le Pen in France and Matteo Salvini in
Italy, whom The Wall Street Journal reported Trump had met with and
endorsed in Philadelphia. ("Matteo, I wish you become the next Italian
premier soon," Trump was quoted as saying.) In fact, he insists he
didn't meet Salvini. "I didn't want to meet him." And, in sum, he
doesn't particularly see similarities — or at least isn't interested in
them — between those movements and the anti-immigrant nationalism he is
promoting in this country.
"And Brexit? Your position?" I ask.
"Huh?"
"Brexit."
"Hmm."
"The Brits leaving the EU," I prompt, realizing that his lack of
familiarity with one of the most pressing issues in Europe is for him no
concern nor liability at all.
"Oh yeah, I think they should leave."
It is hard not to feel that Trump understands himself, and that we're
all in on this kind of spectacular joke.

Well, the joke's now on us, Mr. Wolff.
You could just dismiss this coverage, and all the other coverage
revealing that Trump is totally out of his depth and unable to deal with
the job. Mr. Trump calls this the "dishonest press", and is his and his
posse's standard way to dismiss inconvenient facts emerging in the
press. If that tactic seems familiar, it's recycled from the NSDAP,
which dismissed any and all adverse coverage as the "Lügenpresse" (lying
press) at work. And, in fact, a large number of Trump reporters
mass-adopted the NSDAP term verbatim without even translating it:

But I'm sure it's coincidence.
