Good ol' Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III!
This is the troglodyte against whom his own staff spoke up to make sure
he wouldn't be confirmed to the Federal Bench. His staff were appalled
at the notion that an unreconstructed Alabama racist would even be
considered, and testified to the Judiciary Committee that Sessions had
repeatedly complained about the NAACP and ACLU being "un-American" and
"Communist-inspired" because they "forced civil rights down the throats
of people". And one of Sessions's Assistant US Attorneys, black lawyer
Thomas Figures, testified that Session had told him he thought the Ku
Klux Klan was "OK until I found out they smoked pot". Figures also said
that Sessions had called him "boy" and advised him to "be careful what
you say to white folks".
Sessions became only the second nominee to the federal judiciary in 48
years whose nomination was killed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
This is the best and brightest of the East Coast socially liberal
Republicans? An Alabama neo-Confederate who thinks civil rights are
un-American and wants to ban abortion? I think you've completely lost
your mind.
