If SeaDream cancels the 7-day Cannes-to-Civitavecchia cruse, then
we have through about the end of the month to do _something_ in Europe
since we're here already -- but that doesn't mean a jaunt to elswhere in
southern France is the best use of that time. We've both been looking
with great interest at river cruises, especially Danube River ones, for
quite a long time. Recently, one of our favourite companies, Crystal
Cruises, bought an existing river craft and offered us a good deal on a
Danube cruise, _but_ that's one of the many such craft with no elevators
and the need to go up and down staircases many times a day, which
Deirdre would have a hard time with. By contrast, the AmaWaterways
craft on the Danube _do_ have elevators, as it turns out, so that's
suddenly attractive.
If I were by myself, I'd maybe go bicycling around Tuscany, or Ireland,
or Scotland, or something like that. Or maybe just go hang out in
Barcelona for a while, eat paella, drink really strong coffee, and learn
some Catalan. Or, hey, hang out with the Portuguese. They're fun, too,
and really know how to live. (So do the southern French.)
