Well the MTA spent 15 billion dollars building a new floor and new rail
platforms, along with the concurrent trackage, signals etc, to Grand
Central Terminal to add Long Island Rail Road access to Grand Central
Station when the CURRENT GCT is only being used to 30% of its track
capacity, because the LIRR can't get along with MetroNorth who currently
uses the trackage. And to top it off, both the LIRR and MetroNorth are
both subsidiaries of the MTA.
and to top that off the LIRR doesn't need GCT access as it has access to
a larger facility at Penn Station.
Which to top that off, there is a easier method of getting suburban
passangers to the East Side, by putting the LIRR traffic to Atlantic
Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn and to run special express service on the 5
train to GCTs midtown location, and then use the excesses trackage there.
I want to here you top that with BART.
