SUBJECT | Subject: [Hangout-NYLXS] Perl 6 Group Update
|
We've had three sessions of the New York City Perl 6 Beginners Study Group so far. Attendance at these sessions has been 19, 11 and 6, respectively. While that decline might seem to be cause for alarm, it's not, really.
When I issued the call for the group back in January, 6 was the upper bound of what I was expecting. The 19 at the first session was pleasantly surprising but also a bit more than we were prepared to handle, especially given that the venue hasn't worked out quite as well as we expected. And the people who are still attending are making a more serious commitment to studying Perl 6. We'll have a couple of lightning talks at ny.pm at Social Flow next Tuesday, April 12, as evidence of that.
Our next study group session will be one week later than previously scheduled: Saturday May 14 rather than May 7. The reason is that at least 3 of the steady attendees have conflicts on May 7. The venue will probably be at d.b.a. at either 12:15 pm or 12:30 -- but don't carve that in stone yet. As was the case at Session 3, attendees are expected to show something they've done in or for Perl 6 or the Perl 6 ecosystem during the past five weeks.
On a non-technical note, can we organize a social meeting some weeknight during the last two weeks of this month? (Scheduling notes: DC-Baltimore Perl Workshop is Sat Apr 16; first night of Passover is Fri Apr 22.)
Thank you very much. Jim Keenan
