SUBJECT | Subject: [Hangout-NYLXS] NYC Perl6 Beginners Study Group: where do we meet
|
Perl6 fans:
We face a challenge getting a venue for our next meeting, currently scheduled for two weeks from today, Saturday, April 2.
We had to share the patio area at d.b.a. on March 5 with a noisy group. I had not anticipated that, as early as 1:00 pm, there would be competition for the free space. That was not our experience when we were doing the Phalanx group -- but then again that was in 2005 and New York City has added several hundred thousand people since then!
This past week I tried the bar in whose side room at which the NYC BSD Users group meets monthly. They reported that that room tends to be booked up on early weekend afternoons except during peak summer. And one other pub I was in doesn't have side rooms.
So we're in a quandary. If anyone has a venue they can secure for 2 to 2-1/2 hours on early Saturday afternoon of April 2 -- we could start anywhere between noon and 2:00 pm -- please contact me ASAP! Need public wifi and space for 10-15 people, preferably a space not shared with other parties.
Otherwise, if we have no other location by mid-week, I'll have to contact d.b.a. again and see if their patio is still available. I might request that our start-time be moved up to 12:30 or 12:15 to have less of a conflict.

On a happier note, I'm told that two of our group members will have a surprise presentation at our next meeting. I'm looking forward to that. Myself, I'm slowly working my way through Jonathan Worthington's tutorial: http://www.jnthn.net/papers/2015-spw-perl6-course.pdf. Feel free to post your Perl 6 goals!
Thank you very much. Jim Keenan
