Ah, OK, that makes sense!
Since you're not not using, or at least not promoting, the pipermail archive that Mailman creates by default, at your leisure you might want to hack the listinfo page via http://www.nylxs.com/mailman/edithtml/hangout/listinfo.html in order to replace the macro-generated link to http://www.nylxs.com/mailman/private/hangout/ with one to http://www.nylxs.com/mailing.html (where the public archives are). Otherwise, people relying on the listinfo page will see only the (restricted) pipermail archive. (Notice at the bottom of this message that Mailman appendes a footer to all postings that points to the listinfo page.)
Also, since you aren't intending to rely on the pipermail archive, you might want to disable that feature. You can disable Mailman archiving for the mailing list entirely on http://www.nylxs.com/mailman/admin/hangout/archive -- but offhand I'm not sure changing 'Archive messages?' on that page from Yes to No just disables pipermail or also prevents Mailman from adding new messages to the cumulative mbox. But you can find out the best way.
