Just to be clear, I am wary of Wikipedians -- specifically of the editors, much more than I am of the encyclopaedia. About 5-10 years ago, I observed numerous rather appalling instances of the editor-regulars getting into acrimonious edit wars with persons over the contents of articles concerning those persons. E.g., there would be an article about semi-famous person Foo. Foo would attempt to edit the Foo article to correct what he/she said was factual inaccuracies, and encounter massive pushback and public attack by the (pseudonymous) editors.
The pseudonymous editors seemed to take particular glee in viciously slagging well-known people who participated.
At that time, I settled on a personal policy of _not_ having a Wikipedia login, lest I attract that sort of hostile attention by my edits. I did occasionally participate to polish up articles or make other improveemnts I thought unlikely to raise controversy -- and to this day conduct such edits only anonymously. Also, after someone started a Wikipedia article about _me_, I nominated it for deletion, taking care to use the non-aggressive, non-expedited method (so I wouldn't trigger knee-jerk opposition) and justify the request by claiming I simply am not notable.
