Fellahs: Isn't the most-useful tip to buy gear whose chipsets have been in production for at least a year, giving open source coders time to support them and getting functional support into released distros? And isn't the best way to assure that outbome sticking mostly to slightly used gear rather than new units?
That's been a good Linux strategy for me, for, oh, twenty years or so.
