MTA fare hike takes effect Sunday
/Posted: / /Updated: / By MYFOX NEW YORK STAFF MTA MTA NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
The long anticipated MTA fare increase is expected to take effect on Sunday.
The base fare of a single subway or bus ride in New York City will go up a quarter, from $2.50 to $2.75.
The Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved the hikes on the MetroCard, tolls at MTA bridges and tunnels, and fares on the commuter railroads.
The cost of the unlimited-ride monthly MetroCard will rise to $116.50. The bonus for pay-per-ride MetroCards will increase to 11 percent from 5 percent.
Riding the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will cost about 4 percent more.
Late last year, the MTA said it had cut over $1 billion from its annual spending and planned to do more.
