I'm not happy about this either; it's common to need to tweak kernel
parameters at boot time via sysctl or sysfs and it sounds like that interface
is going to be broken by this or will have to detect when systemd is in use
and use a call systemd-nspawn for these settings. :-/

There may be a reason for this change, but if so I'd like to know what it is.
Hopefully there's an explanation available in the documentation.

I think the next best alternative is either running BSD or a GNU system with a
BSD kernel. Both are available. It's probably time to look at both and to
gain some familiarity with them to make the transition easier when it becomes
necessary.
