Event Content Coordinator / Manager
The Job: The Linux Foundation is hiring an Event Content Coordinator/Manager (position based on experience) to help provide speaker and content support for our core and managed conferences and events which include LinuxCon, CloudOpen, ApacheCon and many others. This is an outstanding opportunity for the right person who wants to help shape conference content for The Linux Foundation. We are looking for a highly collaborative person who can work closely with our existing team to continue to grow Linux Foundation events.
Who We Are Looking For: You are highly organized and are comfortable helping coordinate calls for participation (CFPs) and program committees for multiple events with a range of technical topics at the same time. You love doing research, learning about new and exciting technologies and people, and have fantastic communication skills - both over email, telephone and in person. You are familiar with Linux, open source and/or such topics as Internet of Things, embedded computing and are aware of technology trends and markets.
Key Responsibilities
Support our managed events by coordinating the CFP process and being the point-of-contact for program committee members and chairs. Organize the program into a conference schedule; liaise with speakers, provide support during the submission phase and leading up to event on items such as slide submissions, speaker cancellations and replacements, pre-event details and post-event follow-up, assisting with special requests and more. Manage our travel fund request program; assisting with the process of determining who to fund, following up with fund requests and acting as the point of contact throughout the entire process, and requests for reimbursement. Help identify and research new and emergent technologies and the people working on them to increase the presence of those at our events. Assist with speaker outreach on behalf of managed events and senior content team. Outreach to and coordination of key people and projects who are involved in our events; good communication and ability to be sensitive to different groups and people. Being a key part of our events content team to either support or own content for various events
Skills & Knowledge
You are technically savvy. We don't require you to have a computer science degree, but you know your way around technology enough to be able to effectively review submissions for the events that you are supporting. Topic areas include virtualization, security, kernel, cloud, embedded Linux, IoT, etc.. You don't have to be an expert but an understanding is needed. You have experience with CMSs like Drupal and are familar with Google Docs. You have excellent email management skills. Experience with IT journalism or technology conferences would be a plus. A familiarity with the Linux and open source community is an strong asset that will impact the level of responsibility associated with this role. Highly sensitive and supportive; great communication is paramount, and the ability to be inclusive and reach out to under-represented communities to get them involved in our events.
