As I said if you can get the parts by all means do it your self but you usu=
ally can't get them unless the laptop is very old and they usually are salv=
aged parts.
The only reason to go to a repair location is if you can't g=
et the part you need such as something obscure like a model specific wiring=
harness on a recent model.
And as far as the G3 and G4 laptops those ar=
e more than a decade old, salvaged parts from them are relatively easy to f=
ind. However you can buy a working one for less than $100 if you know where=
to look (like google the shopping search) so I don't know why you would bo=
ther.
And I replaced a ton of those G3 and G4 screens back in the early =
