FWIW
Proposal to NYLUG
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't know
I'm thinking of doing a workup of a regular program for Tuesday nights that NYLXS can co-bill with NYLUG, FWIW. I'm sure that is not in itself a program. But there are a couple of things that bother me. First, I've been involved in education with Free Software now since 2000 and it seems to me that nobody respects of commits seriously to a program if they don't pay something for it. There needs to be some kind of payment. I don't know what Meetup does with NYLUG and how it involves the library, but I not interested in doing a serious class without commitment, to have people float in and out, and drop out because halfway through new people can't get in properly or everyone else decided to spend their Tuesday nights at the Malted Shop.
Secondly, we have a rather large program developed, and if we did this, then I think I'd want to start from the ground up...
Shell basics, vi, Unix Power tools, GNU instllation and basic adminstration, Perl, C, OO-Perl, C++
more or less in that order
And then I'd like to see another track that I had never developed with I do want which is application usage:
general desktop application overview gimp emacs libre-office gnucash inkscape blender firefox thunderbird
some can be done in a day. Some deserve some serious study.
