Use the Yast backup tool. I'm assuming its a SuSE box. Its not installed by= default any more but its awesome. I'm planing to an homage of it for space= walk as a part my extravehicular admin project. It will backup any file not= included in an RPM and any file modified from the one included in the RPM.=
