Problem with server:
PIII Desktop PC 650MHz, 196MB, 4GB HD. Mandrake 9.2, last version before Mandrake became Mandriva.
I know - its an old system, one of the first I built to learn on. Just found it in a closet and turned it on. Goes into splash screen, select Linux and then goes into a black screen and freezes. Nada. Zulch. Its dead at this point, but not off, its still on.
Reboot, go into Linux-SafeBoot. Lists the options and hardware specs of the machine and starts loading Linux. Then it gives this command and freezes dead.
"Checking 'hlt' command"
If I'm right, this is a CPU Halt machine language command which stops a machine dead in its tracks.
Why it is doing this? Last time I turned on the machine, it worked fine though it was a few years ago (around '08). The machine itself seems to be running fine with no hardware problems.
What to do, how to fix this? What you guys think? I really do not want to reinstall the system.
Many thanks.
Fernando.
