I doubt there's a shred of GNU in there. Do you know otherwise? It's always a good thing to see Linux getting around, if nothing else it's one less copy of iOS or Windows on something, but I believe WebOS is a good deal more proprietary than Android is. Nokia Maemo devices these things are not. Alas poor Nokia.... It's starting to look like Linux will be the #1 phone and tablet operating system, but only locked down variants stripped of anything that might let you use your device in ways other than the company that sold it to you wants you to use it.
It's pretty shitty what's been going on with Android devices. The carriers like "open" when it applies to _them_, but when it applies to _you_, openness is something to be battled with every available technical and legal resource.
Also... who do you think WebOS is a threat to? I hear it spoken of rather favorably by some industry pundits, but who do you think it threatens? Windows? iOS? Android? Blackberry/QNX? All of them?
